This has lead to a costly legal battle between the two parties, with Crawford estimating that the bank's legal spending has outpaced the $28,000 remaining balance she had on her mortgage.
Twin Cities Daily Planet reported on March 12 that Crawford has been allowed to keep her home. On February 13, the legal battle ended with a compromise: the banks agreed to stop trying to evict her, provided she gave up the official ownership of her home.
Today, Crawford works as a research technician at the University of Minnesota, and says it feels great being able to once again hang items in her home with the confidence that they'll be there for years to come.
